From The Critics |
Booknews
This third edition of a text for dental students reflects the recent
proliferation of products and techniques and the information explosion in
science and technology, and incorporates a framework for a hierarchy of
different types of evidence used to evaluate dental materials. It also
offers twice as many clinical scenarios. After a comparison of metals,
ceramics, and polymers, some areas covered are biocompatibility, adhesion to
tooth structure, and impression materials. Other topics include dental
cements, casting alloys, orthodontic wires, and implant and bone
augmentation materials. Learning features include discussion questions,
chapter glossaries, and study questions. O'Brien teaches biologic and
materials sciences at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
