Removable Partial Dentures on Osseointegrated Implants

Rating: three stars from

The title of this book is
somewhat confusing, because only complete removable dentures are presented. A
more representative title for this book would be Alternative
Approaches for Mandibular Removable Dentures on Osseointegrated Implants.
It is, nevertheless, an interesting book that introduces a new concept for
prosthetic treatment of elderly patients, encompassing an implant-retained,
removable, bridge-type suprastructure. It also presents the advantages of such a
concept through experimental and clinical studies. This book is primarily
dedicated to prosthodontists and dentists who try to offer their elderly
patients a quality restoration adapted to their needs and concerns. It will also
be helpful to graduate residents and dental technicians who wish to further
their armamentarium in implant technology. This text is magnificently
illustrated and is amazingly easy to read. The first part, in-vitro evaluation
of various attachments, presents very interesting data. The second part, a
concept for treatment of the edentulous mandible in elderly patients using
osseointegrated implants, is subdivided into six chapters presenting the
techniques, followed by clinical case presentations. This book will prove to be
valuable in a time where geriatric needs are increasing. It presents insight on
the multifaceted aspects of aging and prosthodontic approaches for increased
restorative success.

From Booknews
Introduces an
interdisciplinary model for the prosthetic treatment of the edentulous mandible
in elderly patients with removable partial dentures on osseointegrated implants,
involving three structurally and therapeutically different removable
suprastructures to fit specific requirements of elderly patients. Precision
prefabricated components are used exclusively for simple fabrication of the
removable suprastructure. Emphasis is on implant-prosthetic treatment of elderly
patients, with consideration of aspects of aging, presurgical prosthetic
planning, and prosthodontic treatment principles. Presents experimental studies
dealing with functional and technical aspects of implant-borne removable
suprastructures, and illustrates techniques with many color photos. Annotation
